Wilhelm Construction wraps up Fairfield Inn & Suites

Posted : 02/03/2010

F. A. Wilhelm Construction Co., Inc. of Indianapolis provided general contracting services for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Indianapolis Downtown and the remodeling of the attached TGI Friday's restaurant.

The hotel and restaurant opens today.  To build the Fairfield Inn, Wilhelm combined renovation with new construction.  Working with CSO Architects, Wilhelm retained the structurally sound frame and roof from the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and TGI Friday’s that had been on the site, saving time and construction costs in building the new Fairfield Inn and Friday's.

Demolition of the old structure took place by February 2009.  Wilhelm Project Manager, Mitch Davison, and Superintendent, Tim O'Brian, headed about 25 subcontractors as they rebuilt the building’s façade and interior.

Davison says, "We installed the new exterior panels as we removed the old façade, allowing us to protect the interior remodeling work and meet the construction schedule."

TGI Friday's got a new kitchen and remodeled interior as part of the project.  The hotel was completed in mid-December.  Trim carpentry, furnishing, decorating and staff recruitment and training took place in January.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites is targeted to business and leisure travelers who are looking for reliable service, exceptional value and amenities such as complementary breakfast and wireless Internet service.  The hotel has 168 guest rooms and 34 suites, contemporary décor incorporating bright lime green and orange with shades of blue and turquoise.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites Indianapolis downtown is one of a group of new Marriott hotels known the Marriott Place complex.  Two others also open in February: the Courtyard by Marriott and SpringHill Suites by Marriott.  The largest hotel in the group, the 1,005-room JW Marriott, opens in February 2011.  Wilhelm poured the concrete frame for the JW Marriott that will be the largest hotel in Indianapolis.   The site is across the street from the Indiana Convention Center, Victory Field, Indiana State Museum and Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Arts.  It is a short walk from Lucas Oil Stadium and the Circle Center Mall.
