Every year thousands of fans crowd Mackey Arena at Purdue University to support the nationally known Boilermaker basketball team in hopes of keeping the strong basketball tradition alive in Indiana. The renovation and addition to the existing building consisted of 60,000 square-feet of structural and architectural renovation of the existing arena and a 286,000-square-foot core and shell expansion. It features new lobby and concourse areas, training and locker room facilities for athletes, as well as club rooms for sporting event guests.
Memorial StadiumIndiana University
The Indiana Hoosiers football program represents Indiana University Bloomington in NCAA Division I Football and in the Big Ten Conference. The Indiana University North End Zone addition is a new 138,000-square-foot facility that transformed Memorial Stadium into a horseshoe layout connecting the east and west stands. The addition contains new football coaching and staff offices, a two-level Hall of Champions banquet facility that overlooks the playing field from three stories above and expanded seating for football games, raising the stadium’s seating capacity to 52,692. At the heart of the facility is a 25,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center, one the largest in the country, that is used by all 24 varsity sports.
Lilly Recreation CenterDePauw University
The Lilly Recreation Center serves as DePauw University’s main indoor fitness and recreation facility and is the competition home to the basketball, swimming and diving, and volleyball teams on campus. Future enhancements were in mind as the University chose to replace the roof of the natatorium so it could be converted into a practice gymnasium. Fitness training areas and a mezzanine of cardio equipment now overlook the pool and various upgrades to varsity locker rooms, labs and multipurpose spaces also took place during the renovation. The project involved remodeling 25,852 square-feet of the existing building and constructing a 37,691-square-foot addition. The University is pursuing LEED Silver certification on this project.
KFC Yum! Center ArenaLouisville, KY
The fifth-largest college basketball arena in the U.S., the KFC Yum! Center Arena is located in downtown Louisville along the Ohio River and is the home of the University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball programs. The 22,000-seat arena also accommodates concerts, circuses, wrestling, boxing, ice shows and other large gatherings.
Pacers Training FacilityIndianapolis, IN
The Indiana Pacers are a professional basketball team located in the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana. In recent years, many NBA teams have started investing millions of dollars in state-of-the-art training facilities used to keep their players in the best shape and to also as a marketing pitch to lure new players to the team. The Pacers Training Facility consists of a new indoor basketball practice center for the Indiana Pacers to be located on the elevated surface parking lot immediately south of the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage. The building consists of a 5-story concrete and steel framed structure and is approximately 156,000 gross square-feet. The building includes 2 full size practice courts, training and weight facilities, a hydrotherapy area, player lounge, player locker room, kitchen/server, video room, coach’s offices and administrative offices for the Pacers.
