At Wilhelm Construction, our strengths come from within

"I am Wilhelm means... we're old school."

Clients tell us we are "old school."  If that means Wilhelm is staffed with professionals who do great work, then yes, we're old school. If it means Wilhelm guarantees every job, from restoring a historic edifice to building high-tech, health science labs, then OK, we’re old school. If it means we have the ability to get the job done on time and on budget, then sure, we’re old school.

But at Wilhelm, "old school" doesn’t mean old ways of thinking or old ways of doing business, for you won’t find a more progressive construction company in the Midwest.

Self Performing Is What Moves Wilhelm Ahead of the Competition

Self Performing is what moves Wilhelm ahead of the competition

In an age when conventional wisdom looks to outsourcing and subcontracting to reduce fixed overhead, we do just the opposite. We bring what the job demands to the work site, no more and no less. We use our own people and our own resources – and control the construction schedule – to produce the highest quality work. We believe self-performing is another way of demonstrating accountability and achieving best value for our clients.

We do the following work with our own forces: earthwork, selective demolition, concrete, masonry, miscellaneous and structural steel, carpentry, and through affiliates: sheet metal fabrication and HVAC, process piping and fabrication, plumbing, electrical, and equipment installation. These capabilities give Wilhelm the flexibility to perform most work on projects with limited reliance on multiple subcontractors. Our competitors can’t match the depth of experience that self-performing gives Wilhelm.

Safety Is Wilhelm Construction's Highest Priority

Safety is Wilhelm Construction's highest priority

We will never know how many lives have been saved or injuries avoided by Wilhelm’s focus on safety. Our culture and training encourage people to recognize potential hazards even in the most routine operations. We strive to achieve zero incidents on all of our projects and at the end of the day, our employees leave their jobs in as good of shape, or better, than when they arrived that morning.

Our greatest asset is our labor force, which generated over 2-million labor intense man-hours in 2010 with no lost time accidents.  Our EMR, 0.65, is well below industry standards and speaks volumes on Wilhelm’s commitment to safety.

Wilhelm is a charter member of the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety (MICCS). We play a leading role in: employee training, emergency preparedness, project safety planning, drug free work place, and subcontractor safety.

Wilhelm Construction Delivers the Highest Level Of Quality On Each Project

Wilhelm Construction delivers the highest level of quality on each project

Francis Wilhelm was promising quality when he looked in a neighbor’s eye in 1923 and said; "I can build a porch for you."

Our quality assurance program, based on the established principles of the  ISO 9000:2001 standard, allows Wilhelm to work on heavily regulated construction for the pharmaceutical, food, chemical and energy industries and has become an industry standard.  Wilhelm starts with our standardized Quality Assurance Management System that can then be modified to suit the needs of any project’s requirements.  This modified program then becomes what is known as a Project Specific Quality Plan (PSQP).  The core principles of this PSQP are as follows:

  • Document Control
  • Control of Quality Records
  • Material Control
  • Inspection and Testing Plans
  • Field Observations and Surveillance Checks of in-process work
  • Corrective Action
  • Control of Nonconformance
  • Internal Auditing

Wilhelm incorporates quality into every project through our quality assurance manager and project staff, and the continuous training of project quality managers and superintendents.
