In an age when conventional wisdom looks to outsourcing and subcontracting to reduce fixed overhead, we do just the opposite. We bring what the job demands to the work site, no more and no less. We use our own people and our own resources – and control the construction schedule – to produce the highest quality work. We believe self-performing is another way of demonstrating accountability and achieving best value for our clients.
We do the following work with our own forces: earthwork, selective demolition, concrete, masonry, miscellaneous and structural steel, carpentry, and through affiliates: sheet metal fabrication and HVAC, process piping and fabrication, plumbing, electrical, and equipment installation. These capabilities give Wilhelm the flexibility to perform most work on projects with limited reliance on multiple subcontractors. Our competitors can’t match the depth of experience that self-performing gives Wilhelm.

Specializing in large complex concrete projects, Wilhelm self-performs work from the ground up: foundations, deep pits, floor slabs, cast-in-place, tilt-wall and elevated superstructures (such as two of the three tallest concrete frame buildings in Indianapolis). Wilhelm maintains a concrete form shop equipped with tools and materials to construct the formwork used on Wilhelm projects.
Wilhelm employs company crews for site layout, rebar placement, forming, placing and finishing. Our ability to integrate the entire process allows us to control cost, ensure high quality and finish on schedule. Wilhelm owns forming systems used to build cast-in-place, post tensioned structures. This enables us to build and deliver formwork on aggressive schedules at very competitive prices.
Our roots were founded in masonry
Wilhelm Construction was founded as a masonry contractor in 1923. Our masons perform expert work for brick, block, stone, glass block, and masonry pre-cast construction.
Our crews lay, repair, restore, clean and caulk their own work, assuring reasonable cost and high quality on time. We use our own mixers, walk boards, scaffolding, cranes, fork trucks, and associated equipment to efficiently mobilize and perform each project.

We self-perform our structural steel services
Wilhelm is AISC certified for our structural steel fabrication facility and steel erection division. We self-perform structural steel erection on multi-story projects. Our welders operate a state-of-the-art steel fabrication facility to produce platforms, mezzanines, structural frames, and steel fabrications of all types. Our customers’ specifications become steel fabrications that will stand the test of time. Self-performing these services is another advantage to clients who depend on us to complete their jobs on time and on budget.
