Progress at IU Health Bloomington
May has arrived and as we look forward to more summer-like temperatures, the mechanical, electrical and plumbing activities come into focus for the Central Energy Plant (CEP). Beginning this month, structural steel erection for the CEP building will begin. This construction activity is scheduled for three weeks.
With the Regional Academic Health Campus (RAHC) building footprints poured, the massive concrete activities continue bringing the upper floors into view, as we rise upward with the second floor pours occurring this month. The month of April 2019 brings the total to 21,000 cubic yards of concrete poured to date!
Major accomplishments of the past month
Two fuel oil tanks arrived onsite and have been placed in their final underground position. These tanks, holding a total of 70,000 gallons of fuel oil, will provide a fuel source to the generators and boilers in emergency situations.
- Electrical subcontractors continue to install emergency duct bank conduit.
- Excavation subcontractors continue with installation of site water mains.
- Underground sanitary and storm piping install continues throughout site.
- Temporary road to IU Golf Course driving range off 45/46 commenced.
Bids for the remaining bid packages for the RAHC will be received and reviewed this month and the successful winning bidders will prepare themselves to mobilize to the jobsite soon thereafter.
Onsite working hours now total over 160,000 hours and currently 180 employees work onsite every day to bring this dream to fruition.
