The Children's TherAplay Foundation, Inc
Children’s TherAplay, located in Carmel, Indiana, is a not-for-profit healthcare facility unlike any Wilhelm Crews had worked on before. The facility specializes in hippotherapy – the use of horses to provide pediatric physical and occupational therapy – to approximately 170 special needs children, ranging in age from 18 months to 13 years.
The project increased stalls from 11 to 16 in the new pre-engineered, wood barn. Unlike traditional stall doors, these stalls are equipped with woven mesh at the bottom allowing children to see the horses inside without having to be picked up. The barn also has a climate controlled tack room with a washer and dryer, and wash stalls allowing staff to care for the horses inside. The poured concrete floors within the horse barn are unlike traditional dirt floors making cleaning easier. The team also installed glycol tubing prior to pouring the concrete to provide radiant heat and prevent the floors from freezing in the winter time.
