Southwestern Parkway Storage Basin
Louisville / Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD)
This underground storage basin will remain largely invisible to the public when completed and will enhance not only the water quality of the Ohio River, but also the quality of Louisville’s Shawnee Park. This basin is constructed to capture overflow of rainwater and sewage during periods of heavy rain to be gradually released back into the sewer system for treatment.
This is a design-build project with Ulliman Schutte to construct a 20-million gallon combined sewer overflow (CSO) storage tank. The nearby Ohio River and active City park require special traffic pattern planning for deliveries to minimize any impact to park facilities and the adjacent neighborhood.
