Safety Tip of the Week – Falls
Falls are the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry. The number of construction fatalities associated with falls is on an increasing trend. One out of every three construction-related deaths is from a fall; 751 reported fatalities in 2010. The top six most frequently cited standards are residential construction (1926.501(b)(13)), unprotected sides and edges (1926.501(b)(1)), employer to provide fall protection systems (1926.501(a)(1)), roofing work on low-slope roofs (1926.501(b)(10)), step roofs (1926.501(b)(11)) and hole protection (1926.501(b)(4)(i)).
