Indiana State Museum

Indianapolis, IN

The Indiana State Museum is located in the White River State Park in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The mission of this museum is to celebrate, explore, and steward all that is authentically wondrous about Indiana. This unique three-story museum is completely constructed from materials found in Indiana and displays icons from each of Indiana’s 92 counties on the exterior walls. This building showcases Indiana’s past, present and future for all who visit.

Serving as general contractor, Wilhelm built museum space including a mock limestone quarry, the reconstructed School #5 facade, a portion of the Ayres Tea Room and various historic artifacts, all contained in dramatic sky-lit spaces. The steel-framed museum building is clad in several types and patterns of stone, stainless steel and glass curtain wall. Spanning the canal is a Whipple-truss bridge that connects to the curatorial and administrative areas. This concrete frame structure is also clad in brick, limestone and glass curtain wall.
