The new facility, located on the Marion County Community Justice Campus, will include crime scene investigation labs, fire-arm examination lab with a shooting range, autopsy labs, drug/ tracing labs, and four cold rooms to store up to 150 deceased bodies. The new 80,000 SF facility will provide much needed space, as the city has seen record setting homicides numbers in recent years along with new equipment to improve efficiency.

The site was previously a Citizens gas plant, which meant significant measures were completed to mitigate the contaminated soils and poor building ground. Measures included raising the site elevation by four feet, coordinating with onsite geologists to mitigate hazardous materials, and installing 650 rammed aggregate pier ground improvements at the building pad.
